He received his basic undergraduate (MBBS) qualification from the Seth G S Medical College and K E M Hospital, University of Mumbai. He went on to complete his Masters In General Surgery (M S) from the same institution, where he was trained by some of the respected teachers in the field.
He later moved on to the Tata Memorial Hospital and Cancer Research Institute, wherein he received comprehensive surgical training in all aspects of Surgical Oncology. He underwent a comprehensive training programme in Surgical Oncology rotating through all the subspecialties, all through all grades from junior registrar to senior registrar and surgical research fellow.
After a brief tenure as Assistant Surgeon in division of Surgical Oncology at the Bombay Hospital, he moved on to UK to pursue further surgical training. He was associated with centres of excellence and tertiary referral centres, for almost 10 years.
He received comprehensive training in all aspects of Hepato Biliary and Pancreatic Surgery (HPB) surgery and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery at the well-known, University College Hospitals and Royal London Hospitals, Barts and the London NHS Trust and Royal Free Hospital Medical School, London.
He was Senior Clinical Fellow within the division of Hepato Biliary and Pancreatic Surgery and Adult Liver Transplantation at the well-known Sheila Sherlock Liver Centre, Royal Free Hospital, and London, UK. He received complete training in Liver transplantation from leading stalwarts and leaders in the field. This was along with comprehensive training in all aspects of major and complex liver, biliary, gall bladder and pancreatic surgery- benign and malignant.
While in the UK, he passed the examination of the Speciality FRCS in Hepato Biliary and Pancreatic (HPB) Surgery and Upper Gastro intestinal Surgery leading to the award of the FRCS (Upper GI/HPB), by the Inter Collegiate Speciality Board, Royal College Of Surgeons, UK.
Dr Vyas has a strong academic background and has been a research associate with the division of surgery at the University College, London. He has also been regional coordinator at the RFH/UCL, London, UK for multicentre trials in HPB Surgery.
He also has experience in major and complex abdominal surgery including gastro intestinal oncologic surgery and abdominal sarcoma surgery.
He has several publications in international peer reviewed journals and presentations in international meetings and conferences.
More recently (2016), he has also passed the advanced examination of the European Board of Surgery, leading to the award of the Fellow of the European Board of Surgery in HPB surgery (FEBS).
